Helen Bolton - vocal and performance coach

Q&A

Is it the same as going for singing lessons?

This method differs from simply having singing lessons as it is tailored to your own needs and is particularly geared towards those who want to or are already performing to live audiences. It is rather more like having a mentor or coach to work with you on your approach to a performance, rather than a teacher who might focus singularly on your vocal technique.

Can we meet before hand and chat through things before I decide?

Absolutely – as there are 2 of us involved in this, it helps if we get along! I often meet with prospective students prior to agreeing to work with them in order to be sure I can really help and that we are both happy spending an hour together on a regular basis.

How many sessions will I need?

If we chose to work together we will make that decision together. Some people want regular coaching on an on-going basis for an indefinite time, for them we are in regular contact, on the phone and I give them support and appraisals at live gigs. Others want help in specific areas that may need a session a fortnight for 3 months. For others I design a specific say 8 or 12 week course that can be followed and then at the end we decide if working together further is appropriate. So, in short the answer to this one is I don’t know, that depends on you. And, like all things… without regular practice improvement will be slow – however motivation is part of my job so don’t worry about that.

How long is a session and much does it cost?

Fees Standard hourly rate Advanced booking hourly rate *
  £35.00 £31.50

*
Advance booking rate is for 6 or more lessons booked and paid for in advance.

What’s a performance appraisal?

The best way of working together is for me to see what you are doing currently, so that we can work from a point that we both have comprehension of. So I will come along to your next performance and watch you do your stuff. Following this I will give you an honest appraisal of the good things and those that need improving. Cost £25.00 (dependent upon location).

Can I buy lessons as a gift or a present for someone else?

Gift certificateYes. If you want to make a gift of one lesson or a series of lessons give me a ring to discuss it. When you are happy that this is the right gift I can provide you with a personalised gift certificate for you to present.
